I never aspired to have a career in politics.
As a life-long Republican, I was raised to value self-reliance and not to look to the government to fix the problems I could fix myself. I was also raised to appreciate entrepreneurship. I became a small business owner in my early 20s and learned quickly through my dealings with various state and federal agencies that too often government acts as the antithesis to growth and innovation. Politics, I reasoned, was part of the problem; not the solution. I wanted no role in it.
This view changed, however, as I began to go through the process of preparing my three teenaged children to go off on their own and launch careers. I realized they likely won’t have the same opportunities and shot at success as I had at their age. This was a sad realization—especially as I watched our government gridlock it’s way out of efficiency; unable to take the needed steps to secure a prosperous and sustainable future for our children. I realized I could either do one of two things: sit at home and gripe or step up to the plate and do something about it.
My decision to run for governor is me doing something about it.
I call on you, the voter, to join me in taking action. We, the people of Nevada, have the power to improve our public schools. We have the power to bring higher-paying jobs to our towns and cities. And we have the power to ensure our state’s economy remains sustainable in the years and decades to come. We have to be willing to do the work by ushering in a new type of government leader; an out-of-the-box thinker who isn’t afraid to protect our values and freedoms while moving beyond party politics to do what’s best for our state.
I’m asking for the opportunity to lead Nevada into a new era. Let me be your next governor, and I promise to bring efficiency, common sense and ethical leadership to Nevada.
