Jared Fisher had only been in the Innevation Center in Reno, Nevada, for five minutes when he was whisked in front of two news television crews to field questions about the business benefits of solar energy.
“What’s your message to any small business owners that show up?” A reporter from ABC 8 News asked, speaking about the approximately 50 people that were expected to attend that day’s event—The Northern Nevada Solar Energy Forum.
“Come and listen and I will be presenting the case for solar,” Jared stated to the cameras, “and what it can do not only for your business, but what it can do for the environment; what it can do for national security; what it can do for our state of Nevada.”
It was Thursday, August 17, 2018, and Jared Fisher, 2018 Republican candidate for Governor, had come to the Innevation Center directly from the airport—luggage in to tow—to give a 20-minute presentation to small business owners and solar energy advocates on “why businesses should go solar.” Although he’d been up late the night before—overseeing a concrete pour at a construction site in North Las Vegas until nearly one in the morning—he was excited to be in Reno and to talk about a big passion of his: renewable energy.
When asked to comment on how the solar industry had recently shown signs of “bouncing back” in Nevada, Fisher told a reporter for News 4, “By bouncing back, we’re going to have a lot of new jobs and it’s going to create an industry that Nevada has needed for years…We need to actively go out and be proactive and make this new revolution happen for Nevada.

After the reporters were done filming, it was time for the main event! Several guest speakers gave presentations, including Kyle Davis from the Nevada Conservation League, Herb Shedd from the United States Department of Agriculture and Assemblywoman Jill Tolles.

When it was Jared’s turn to present, he chose to emphasis the economic benefits of solar for small businesses by giving detailed examples from his experience creating a net-zero solar and wind-powered business in Las Vegas.
You can watch a short clip from Jared’s speech below and view several more on the Fisher family YouTube channel, The Fisher Beat.
After the presentations had ended for the day, Jared’s wife, Heather, helped raffle several solar-powered products to event guests and then both Jared and Heather stayed to answer questions about their business and Jared’s run for governor.
The next day, Jared attended the Governor’s Conference on Business, where he spoke with several exhibitors and guest speakers and even got to briefly chat with the current governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval.
As soon as the conference had finished, Jared rushed to the airport to catch a flight back to Las Vegas so that he could prepare to attend a luncheon with the Latin Chamber of Commerce the following day.
It was a whirlwind of a trip, but Jared and the #Fisher4Nevada team enjoyed meeting many members of the Reno business community. We hope to be back soon! Until then, you can keep up to date on all of our upcoming events by following us on Facebook or Twitter.
