Photo Highlights from the Nevada Day Parade and Celebration in Carson City

Carson City Van

This past Nevada Day weekend, the Fisher Family, the Fisher for Nevada team and a group of volunteers and supporters journeyed to Nevada’s capital city to participate in several special events, including the Carson City Nevada Day Parade.

Over the course of three days, we met a number of great people who were excited by our mission to create a healthy Nevada and who were interested in learning more about Jared Fisher, a non-establishment candidate and ‘political outsider’ from Southern Nevada.

“We love your Healthy Nevada platform!” One Nevadan commented in a Meet & Greet Session Jared hosted after the parade. “What a great idea.”

“We need more candidates running,” said another resident. “It’s good to have options.”

In the months since becoming the first 2018 gubernatorial candidate to announce his candidacy, Jared has spent much of his time meeting residents in rural Nevada and Clark County while traveling on his Listening Tour. Although Jared had visited Carson City several times during the last six months, it was nice to be able to take some time to chat with Carson City residents from such a wide variety of backgrounds. Jared, Heather and the Fisher for Nevada Team spoke with teachers, students, government employees, famers and factory workers, just to name a few. They also spoke to people from nearly every political party. Some of the issues that came up repeatedly during the course of conservations with both Republicans and Democrats were residents’ concerns about healthcare, education, yucca mountain and solar energy.

It was wonderful to be able to share Nevada’s birthday with so many patriotic and enthusiastic Nevadans. We got a clear sense that Carson City has a strong and supportive community of politically-informed and passionate people. We were deeply impressed and we look forward to participating again in next year’s festivities.

Below are several photo highlights from the day.

Preparing for the Carson City Nevada Day Parade

Preparing for the Nevada Day parade in Carson City
On the Saturday morning of the parade, our team awoke at 5:30 in the morning in order to start preparing for the Nevada Day Parade, which included inflating 250 Fisher for Nevada helium balloons, securing them to our float and tying them to Fisher for Nevada cowbells. We then passed out the balloons and cowbells to the children and families who were gathered along the parade route; instructing them to ring the bells when we walked and cycled by. It was a chilly morning and we were impressed by the parade-goers dedication—They were up just as early in order to secure a a good seat for the parade. A few of them had even camped out overnight!

Attending Breakfast at the Governor’s Mansion

At 7am, it was time to head to the governor’s mansion for a special Pancake Breakfast. Jared, Heather and their four children piled into their van to head to the governor’s house, only to find that the roads were blocked because of the parade and they would not be able to make the drive. Undeterred, the Fishers decided to make the journey to the governor’s mansion on foot—walking uphill in the cool weather and making it to the mansion entrance just in time for a hearty, pre-parade breakfast.

The Pancake Breakfast seemed to be the popular place to be! Despite the early morning hour, the room was packed. We were fortunate to be seated next to several of Nevada’s young beauty pageant winners. Like us, they were excited to be marching in parade.Pageant winners in Caron CityThe Fisher Family with several state and local beauty pageant winners, including Miss Nevada Andrea Martinez, Miss Reno Sparks Jordan VanWorth, Miss Carson City Macie Tuell, Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen 2017 Carli Gumm and Miss Washoe County 2017 Samantha Byassee.

Lining Up for the Parade

Waiting for the Nevada Day Parade
After breakfast, it was time to meet up again with our volunteers and make a few last-minute adjustments to our bicycle parade float.

Our youngest volunteer, Winter, prepared for the parade by waving her American Flag. “Fisher for a Healthy Nevada!” she said, rehearsing her chant.
Muscle Powered organization Nevada Day Parade
As we were waiting for the parade to begin, we stopped by to chat and say hello to Muscle Powered, a group who are championing for creating more bike and walking paths throughout Carson City. As it states on their website, Muscle Powered’s mission is to “make Carson City healthier for all citizens and safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure, and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city.”
Waiting on van for parade to start
Although Jared had wanted to ride his bike during the parade, it was decided that people might be able to see him better if he was higher up. He and Heather climbed on top of the Fisher for Nevada van and gave a quick speech to their volunteers, thanking them for their help.

And the Parade Begins!

It was finally time to start the parade! Here Jared waves in excitement to the crowds through a sea of blue balloons.

Our bicycle float was popular with children. “Can I have a balloon?! I want a bell!” they shouted from the sidelines. We passed out as many as we could while we hurried to keep up with the ponies who were marching ahead of us.

A lot of people came to watch the parade. Within 10 minutes, we had given away all of our balloons and cowbells.

Jared Speaks to Las Vegas First Responders

Towards the end of the parade, Jared jumped off the float to honor the first responders of October 1 2017. One of the first responders who was working the night of the tragedy is a dear friend of ours. She and her adorable family drove all the way from Las Vegas to Carson City to help manage our Fisher for Nevada parade team.

Jared Chats with Governor Sandoval

As Jared was preparing to hop back on the float, a black Cadillac pulled to a stop next to him. It was governor Brian Sandoval, stopping to say hello.

Speaking with Nevadans at the Fisher for Nevada Booth

After the parade, Jared and the Fisher for Nevada Team set up a booth so that the Nevada Day Celebration attendees would be able to meet Jared and ask him questions about his campaign and platform. Jared was impressed by how interested, engaged and informed the residents of Carson City were about politics and the issues concerning both their city and state.

Time for the Healthy Nevada Bike Ride!

Healthy Nevada Bike Ride in Carson City
In the late afternoon, Jared led a Healthy Nevada Bike Ride through the mountains of Carson City with a group of residents of Northern Nevada. Jared hosted the ride in order to celebrate Nevada’s great outdoors and to promote Northern Nevada’s strides to create a safe, prosperous and healthy Nevada. “It’s time the world looked past the old stereotypes and saw Nevada for what it is: A vibrant, beautiful state filled with tight-knit communities and health-conscious people who are passionate about the outdoors,” Jared Fisher said in a press release about the event. “If we want to diversify our economy and attract a wide variety of international businesses to our state, we are going to need to show people that Nevada is not only a fun vacation destination but a wonderful place to settle, launch a business and raise a family.”

And then it was time to head home

After an event-packed weekend, it was time to head back to Southern Nevada. Jared, the Fisher Family and the entire #Fisher4Nevada team would like to thank all of the volunteers and supporters who helped make our Nevada Day Weekend a success. We greatly appreciate your dedication and hard work.

We look forward to visiting Carson City again soon.
